This is not an invasion… these clouds come in peace. The volcanic Wrangell Mountains rising out of the Copper River Basin in Alaska are notorious for creating awesome altocumulus standing lenticular clouds (ACSL), as seen here during a dramatic sunrise near Glennallen, AK on March 28, 2021 at 7:40 am. The appearance of an expanding contrail spreading out to the right of the lenticular’s gaping maw is a combination effect of clouds streaming toward 16,390 feet (4996 m) tall Mt. Blackburn in the distance, along with big, dark crepuscular rays angling upward, the cloud’s shadow cast by the rising sun.
