Hi folks, this morning (26.03.2021) at 06:58UT Venus was at superior conjunction. At the time of the conjunction Venus was 81' from the center of the sun and 65' from the solar limb. My procedure the last weeks for the observation of Venus was the following: Calibrate mount (AZ-EQ6) using the Sun, then visually focus on the Sun. Observation with a Baader 3.8 solar photofoil + Baader Cool Ceramic Herschel prism (without the ND filters, of course) + eyepiece with 0.3 ND filter. The foil is normally not allowed to be used visually, but with the Herschel prism (HP) it is possible, because UV and infrared are filtered out. Then adjust to Venus and remove the filter. On the projection screen of the HP you can see exactly where the sun is (no longer in the center). At the appropriate magnification, the sun is outside the field of view and the high brightness is attenuated by the HP (about ND 1.4) and the 0.3 ND filter. And then you can see Venus. At 07:51 I could see it for the first time today, so I could visually observe the exact time of the conjunction. Afterwards I took a picture with an ASI-ZWO 290MM, for this I had to build a small shading device additionally. As telescope I use a Baader Travel-Companion 95/560, which seems to have an extremely low-reflection tube. ATTENTION : THIS KIND OF OBSERVATION IS NOT COMPLETELY HARMLESS, THEREFORE EXTREME CAUTION IS REQUIRED AND IT IS ONLY POSSIBLE WITH A REFRACTOR ! Cheers Joerg
