Details:
After a few days of relative quiet, Earth received a kick from fast flowing and magnetically unstable solar wind on 6-7th Feb, sparking a G1 geomagnetic storm easily detected on my magnetometer here in the UK. At its peak, wind speeds exceeded 500 km/s. More importantly its magnetic field repeatedly switched polarity as shown in the corresponding data from the DSCOVR satellite at L1 making it more potent as a geoeffective force.
