Details:
Posting these while we're on the topic of planet flashes. These were taken during the Venus transit of 6/5/12. These were all taken at roughly 250mm with a homemade cardboard solar filter on a Canon 60D. As the sun began to dip behind high cirrus clouds, they shaped the image in the way you normally see during sunsets behind temperature inversions. The sun was also moving down towards a mountainside, so I'm not certain how the combination of circumstances led to the image. The marked separation in the image of Venus was extremely fleeting, and was gone before I could catch another bracket of images. The image grew and shrank as the sun set but the separation lasted only seconds. You'll also note that the green and red coloration is inverted. Additional images are of the transit while the sun was still high, the beginning of the warping of the image of the sun, and an "overexposure" that depicts the cirrus clouds and mountains a bit better.
