The return of the red Auroras! The night unfolded in two quite distinct periods aurora-wise. During the first part of the night, not long after sunset (so late afternoon here at 70°N at this time of the year), the Aurora was quite weak and displaying large streaks of red again. The red colour was not visible to the naked eye, however, you could clearly see that there was something there. After that, the stronger solar wind arrived, combined with long periods of negative Bz, and this sparked bright and fast auroras all over the sky. Usually, we get short outbursts of Auroras with moments of quiet in between. Tonight, we got almost 2 hours straight of strong and fast lights! I was streaming the entire evening live on my Facebook page in -10°C and this was the first time I attempted this. What a successful night again here in Utsjoki!
