Details:
On 9th November with patchy high cloud in the sky and the afternoon temperature in the mid-30s it was possible to photograph the Sunspot AR2781 archipelago on the setting Sun using just a compact camera with thin cloud and atmospheric smoke haze acting as a solar filter as shown in the accompanying x 2 speed time-lapse animation and still photographs. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset mode with up to x90 optical + digital zoom magnification.
