Details:
With the polar night just around the corner, clear skies at 5 PM mean possibilities for auroras! And for a second afternoon in a row, this is exactly what happened here in Utsjoki, in the far north of Finnish Lapland. Just as the sky became barely dark enough, there they were, the northern lights. I was ready, having seen that the solar wind was still faster than average, with a predominantly negative Bz most afternoon. It did take longer than the previous afternoon/evening to build up, and finally at 7:30 PM the sky exploded again, displaying many bands of green and pink!
