Details:
Mars is getting ever closer to our planet each day through October 6 when it will be a mere 38.5 million miles away. With this close distance, the Red Planet really lives up to its name in the late evening sky. Looking as bright as an aircraft, the planet rivals Jupiter's magnitude. Through the telescope, the polar cap was obvious and dark surface markings were very prevalent. This image was recorded on September 19, 2020 when Mars was -2.27 magnitude and a substantial 21.56” in size. The seeing was a bit iffy. I used a Celestron EDGE HD C9.25 and a 2x Barlow lens coupled to a ZWO ASI224MC color camera. The best 1400 out of 37,000 frames were aligned and stacked using Firecapture, PIPP, AS3, Registax 6, and PS5.
