With the announcement on this page of a minor geomagnetic storm, I immediately got excited with the idea of seeing the first proper northern lights of the season. And it delivered! Tonight, with round 2 of Auroras vs. Twilight, we had a clear winner: auroras! Despite the sun not going further than 10° under the horizon, the auroras displayed a very beautiful show here in Utsjoki, at around 70° of latitude north. I found a nice spot on a river bank, and enjoyed some beautiful auroras painting the deep blue sky. The auroras were so bright and fast, that some coronas also appeared straight above my head! What a fantastic night here in the far north of Finland!
