Since 1983 I am observing NLC formation in the Netherlands. Since then I have seen more than 100 displays. The most extreme widespread display till today was that of July 2nd 2008. Over more than 70 percent of the sky NLC was visible. But... on the evening of the longest day of the year 2019, this record has been broken (speaking for my own records). Already 45 minutes after sunset the sky was covered with NLC. Around 2100 UT in at least 80 to 90% of the sky NLC could be seen, bright and dense. In the next 30 minutes slowly the part of NLC that was still reflecting the sunrays, retreated to the northern part of the skies. Around 22.30 UT a very nice change of colour could be recognized along the high upper edge of the NLC band. Only the red rays of the sun lit these parts of the NLC zone. It was unbelievable display, so bright and vast. For me for sure the most extreme widespread display I have seen in these 35 years!
