After promising data from NLC radar during the day of 22.06 I was hoping to see them for the first time in this year. After sunset I gazed at the sky and I saw a faint silver cloud. That was not what I expected to see, especially when I saw a pictures took by my friends in Poland. Then I decided to wait till 2 am and I went to one of my observing spots on top of the hill. When I came there I saw a beautiful display of NLC stretching 10 degrees over northern horizon. As the sun came up NLC’s were rising as well. Just before 4 am they reached approx 45 degrees over...southern horizon. That is extraordinary, especially when you think that my latitude was 51 N. As a proof I took a photo on 10 mm focal length (15 mm for 35mm format) where NLC’s filling almost entire picture. Brightness was also very good, as EXIF shows 10s ISO 100 f/5.6.
I am fascinated by our atmosphere and space since I was little. It’s been 10 years since I was trying to see and capture such an amazing display, but until last night I was very unlucky.
