I stand corrected. The spec in lower left is Regulus, rather than Mercury.
I was tripped up by NASAs Eclipse Brochure/Bookmark [https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/downloadables] which shows Regulus in the 9:30 position, above the ecliptic, and Mercury at the 8:00 position, well below the ecliptic. Even though the object is in that 8:00 position, it is less than two Moon diameters away from the Moons edge.
It couldnt be Mercury at that short distance. The only bright object that close was Regulus.
