Details:
We had a very clear sunset sky, however no noctilucent clouds came to visit us down here in the Netherlands. The weather forecast was good for the entire night, so I set up my alarm at 3 AM to take my chances with the sunrise. As soon as I looked outside, I knew that the NLC were here! The northern horizon was already extremely bright with many shapes and patterns. I grabbed my gear and drove to my usual pond, and enjoyed an amazing 45 minutes show. The Noctilucent Clouds were not so high in the sky, however they were the brightest and fastest that I have ever seen! In hindsight, I regret dropping my ISO setting to 800. If I had kept my usual 1600, I could have had a faster shutter speed to "freeze" the movement a lot better. Most of my images now are a bit blurry, even with a 0.8s exposure! Anyway, I remain quite happy with the result and the sighting. This was probably my last sighting this year, as I am heading now north of the Arctic Circle, where the midnight sun prevents seeing such beauties. Until next year?
