Details:
This was Comet Lovejoy in a telescopic closeup on Monday, January 19. Compared to a closeup I took two days ago with the same gear the comet looks a little smaller and the tail more narrow, no doubt because the comet is receding from Earth. This is a stack of four 5-minute exposures tracked on the stars to minimize noise, but with the tail of the comet coming from just one exposure to minimize blurring of tail detail. I used a Canon 6D at ISO 1600. The telescope is a 92mm TMB apo refractor at f/4.4. I shot this from near Silver City, New Mexico.
